Description

Newly arrived migrants and refugees who are searching for a career in retail, tourism and hospitality, or transport should head to the Northern Sydney Region Migrant Employment Expo on Wednesday 6 May at North Sydney Council Chambers, 9.30am to 12.30pm.

The expo is targeted at migrants, including humanitarian and skilled migrants, refugees, and people who have moved to Australia to be with their family. It aims to promote employment opportunities, training and volunteering, and build relationships between job seekers, employers and employment agencies. Participating businesses will display information on the job noticeboard, deliver presentations about working in their sector, and hold recruitment stalls.

There will also be one-to-one sessions with industry experts. North Sydney Mayor Genia McCaffery said this year the response from employers was extremely promising. “A number of large retailers will be at the expo, including Coles, Woolworths and Myer. In these tough economic times it is fantastic that these companies are looking to hire people and offer employment advice. We’re also delighted to have representatives from the Northern Sydney Institute of TAFE’s Tourism and Hospitality department and Julia Ross recruitment.”

Taxi Training Australia will be parking one of their vehicles in the car park at the back of the Council Chambers to encourage participants to learn how to become cab drivers.

Michael Shineberg, from Shine Team Building, will hold a laughter yoga workshop, aimed at dealing with stress through laughter and humour.
